CTEX UNVEILS DETAILS OF DATA CENTER COMPLEX—06/01/13
Curaçao Technology Exchange N.V. (CTEX) has provided the final details for the construction of the biggest and most advanced data center designed to provide services to Latin America and the Caribbean. The US$120 million project has brought CTEX recognition for its advanced engineering and design, which minimizes the carbon footprint, utilizes special construction materials, and creates an architecture of advanced cloud computing. Existing data centers are either outdated or located in danger zones, such as those with high seismic activity, causing companies to leverage data centers in the United States or Europe.
CPL DRAFT TO BE STREAMED ON THE INTERNET IN REAL TIME—06/05/13
The Caribbean Premier League (CPL) draft is scheduled to be streamed over the Internet from Jamaica, according to the event’s organizers. Players and fans will be able to see the draft happen on the CPL website and its Facebook page. Six franchises will be drafting players during the streamed event.
SCHOOL REPLACES OLD TEACHING METHODS WITH NEW EDUCATION SOFTWARE—06/06/13
In Montego Bay, Jamaica, Irwin High School is partnering with Educo International Incorporated, a firm based in the United States, to integrate its Educosoft web portal into schools in western Jamaica. The specialized software is meant to help math, science, and English language teachers to educate their students via easy computer technology that provides face-to-face or online instruction. The program has been used with success in Puerto Rico, India, the Middle East, and the U.S. It was pioneered in Jamaica.
ROBINSON SAYS CYBERCRIMES ACT IS DIFFICULT TO UNDERSTAND—06/07/13
Jamaica’s new Cybercrimes Act has been called difficult to understand by legislators and legal technicians alike. According to Julian Robinson, chair of Parliament’s joint select committee on cybercrimes, the way the law is written could make it counter-productive. Maurice Bailey of the Legal Reform Department at the Ministry of Justice admits the law is not easy to comprehend. This may be because it deals with a dynamic area of law.
