NEW CARIBBEAN CLIMATE INNOVATION CENTER TO OPEN—01/26/14
The Caribbean Climate Innovation Center (CCIC) is an initiative of the World Bank’s InfoDev. The center will be inaugurated during a ceremony attended by Phillip Paulwell, Jamaican Minister of Science, Technology, Energy and Mining, and Bhoendradatt Tewarie, Minister of Planning and Sustainable Development of Trinidad and Tobago. The center is designed to develop institutional capacity required for the support of new ventures and small business initiatives aimed at resolving the impact of climate change.
SCIENTIST FINDS NEW CHEMICAL COMPOUND IN JAMAICAN GANJA—01/27/14
Hawthorne Watson, a local Jamaican scientist, has discovered what he characterizes as a new chemical compound from ganja. It has not yet been determined if the compound has any medicinal value, however. Watson calls the compound “Cannabitriol (CBT)” and believes its structure has the potential to be of use medicinally.
